What is Advanced Bi-polar Ionization Technology?

Advanced Bi-polar Ionization Technology is a commercially available technology that produces a stream of ions that can capture gaseous and particulate contaminants in the air, including volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and odors.  Negative and positive ions are produced when electricity is applied to a tube with two electrodes, and which in turn react with water vapor and oxygen in the air to create free radicals.  The free radicals can kill microorganisms and break down odors, improving indoor air quality.*

Is this Ionization Technology?

Yes, but unlike other ionization technologies, it does not produce ozone.

How long do the ions last in the air?

Typically, ions have a life expectancy of up to 60 seconds before they touch a surface or particle in the air.  This occurs inside our BIOair™ units itself before the air passes through the HEPA filter.

How does this technology compare to UV technology for improving indoor air quality?

The UV-C light kills viruses and other pathogens in the air passing through the machine. UV lights require bulb replacement at regular intervals.

Does advanced Bipolar Ionization Technology replace UV technology or work in conjunction with UV technology?

The technology is an ozone-free alternative to UV light and works well in combination with UV light.

Does the technology generate line noise or EMF?

This technology does not generate line noise and does not generate electromagnetic fields (EMF). It is the only ionization technology approved by the FAA for installation on aircraft since it’s passed the stringent DO-160 certification. This certification proves there is no line noise and no EMF (which could be detrimental to aircraft avionics).

Are there by-products?

No. This technology breaks down items in the air into one or more of four basic elements: oxygen, nitrogen, carbon dioxide, or water vapor.

Does this technology eliminate the need for carbon filters or HEPA filters?

No. We recommend using filters in conjunction with it.

Do air filters need to be changed more frequently?

Filter change intervals may be increased in some applications based on run time and how the space is utilized. Most applications can maintain their existing filter change schedule.

Does the technology degrade filters?

No.

Does this technology have an odor to it?

No. It is odorless.

Is it safe for people and animals?

Advanced Bipolar Ionization Technology products are safe for environments occupied by humans and animals. With more than 250,000 installations and many testimonials, these products have proved to be safe and make the air cleaner.

Is your product UL certified?

Yes. The advanced Bipolar Technology has been certified by UL 867 and UL 2998 to be ozone-free.
